22 Sep 2016TL;DR: Based on its alkaline nature, the potential of purified PG in retting of natural fiber Crotalaria juncea was elucidated in the absence of EDTA, probably the first report of alkaline PG from Aspergillus fumigatus.
Abstract: Polygalacturonases represents an important member of pectinases group of enzymes with diverse industrial applications and is widely distributed among fungi, bacteria, yeasts, plants and some plant parasitic nematodes. An endo-polygalacturonase from a new fungal source Aspergillus fumigatus MTCC 2584 was produced under solid-state fermentation conditions and was purified simply by acetone precipitation and gel-filtration chromatography technique. The approximate molecular weight of the purified PG was found to be 43.0 kDa as revealed by SDS-PAGE. The pH optimum of the purified enzyme was found to be 10.0 and was stable in the pH range of 7–10. The optimum temperature of purified PG was found to be 30 °C. The Km and Kcat of the purified enzyme were 2.4 mg/ml and 44 s−1, respectively, and the metal ions Cu2+ and K+ were found to enhance the enzyme activity while Ag+, Ca2+ and Hg2+ were inhibitory in nature. Based on its alkaline nature, the potential of purified PG in retting of natural fiber Crotalaria juncea was elucidated in the absence of EDTA. This is probably the first report of alkaline PG from Aspergillus fumigatus.

TL;DR: The repellent properties of different fractions isolated from Lantana camara flowers by using steam distillation, solvent partition and chromatographic methods were evaluated against Aedes mosquitoes and purification of the most efficient fraction into pure compounds resulted in any increase in repellency.
Abstract: :
The repellent properties of different fractions isolated from Lantana camara flowers by using steam distillation, solvent partition and chromatographic methods were evaluated against Aedes mosquitoes. Maximum protection time of one fraction eluted by chloroform from a silica gel column was 3.45 h. One application of this fraction gave 100% protection for 2 h and may protect 75.8% at 7 h (t = 7.00, P < 0.001) against the bites of Aedes mosquitoes. Further purification of the most efficient fraction into pure compounds did not result in any increase in repellency.

TL;DR: In this article, the bidentate behavior of pyrazoline ligands was confirmed by IR, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectral data, and a distorted trans-octahedral structure around tin(IV) atom for R 2 Sn(C 15 H 12 N 2 OX) 2 has been suggested.
Abstract: Diorganotin(IV) dipyrazolinates of the type R 2 Sn(C 15 H 12 N 2 OX) 2 [where C 15 H 12 N 2 OX = 3(2'-Hydroxyphenyl)-5(4-X-phenyl)pyrazoline {where X = H (a); CH 3 (b); OCH 3 (c); Cl (d) and R = Me, Pr" and Ph}] have been synthesized by the reaction of R 2 SnCl 2 with sodium salt of pyrazolines in 1:2 molar ratio, in anhydrous benzene. These newly synthesized derivatives have been characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N, Cl and Sn), molecular weight measurement as well as spectral [IR and multinuclear NMR ( 1 H, 13 C and 119 Sn)] studies. The bidentate behaviour of the pyrazoline ligands was confirmed by IR, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectral data. A distorted trans-octahedral structure around tin(IV) atom for R 2 Sn(C 15 H 12 N 2 OX) 2 has been suggested. The free pyrazoline and diorganotin(IV) dipyrazolinates have also been screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. Some diorganotin(IV) dipyrazolinates exhibit higher antibacterial and antifungal effect than free ligand and some of the antibiotics.

TL;DR: The genetic diversity among ten Indian cultivars of cowpea was analyzed using 18 sets of RAPD markers and Cultivar IC-9883 was found to be unique based on its altogether distinct position in the dendrogram and two-dimensional space projections.
Abstract: The genetic diversity among ten Indian cultivars of cowpea was analyzed using 18 sets of RAPD markers. A total of 181 bands with an average of 15 bands per primer were obtained. Out of 181 bands, 148 showed polymorphism (81.7%). The variation in genetic diversity among these cultivars ranged from 0.1742 to 0.4054. Cluster analysis based on Jaccard’s similarity coefficient using UPGMA with high bootstrap values revealed two distinct clusters I and II comprised of two and seven cultivars, respectively. Cluster II was further differentiated into various subclusters. Cultivar IC-9883 was found to be unique based on its altogether distinct position in the dendrogram and two-dimensional space projections.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used density functional theory to calculate the bond lengths and charge distribution of pericondensed PAHs in both neutral and cationic forms, and showed that significant change in fractional charge on atoms is present particularly for the outer carbon atoms.
