16 Feb 1994TL;DR: An RF tagging system which provides a large number of potential identification codes without increasing the physical size of RF tags used therein is described in this article, where the external reader includes a detector (216, 218, 220, 222) and a decoder (226) for decoding the time sequence of the selected resonant frequencies for recovering the predetermined identification code.
Abstract: An RF tagging system which provides a large number of potential identification codes without increasing the physical size of RF tags used therein includes a plurality of RF tags (20, 90, 140, 230, 250) and an external reader (200). Each RF tag includes at least one resonant circuit (22, 92, 142, 231, 251) which is resonant at any one of a plurality of different frequencies, a receiver (34, 102, 152,244, 264) for receiving an interrogation signal, and a control (36,104,154,246, 266) responsive to receipt of an interrogation signal for causing its at least one resonant circuit to be resonant at selected ones of the different frequencies in a predetermined time sequence corresponding to a predetermined identification code. The external reader includes a detector (216, 218, 220, 222) for detecting the selected resonant frequencies of the RF tags and a decoder (226) for decoding the time sequence of the selected resonant frequencies for recovering the predetermined identification code.

16 Dec 2009TL;DR: In this paper, a computer readable medium, method and user device for a user interface functionality for SMS and SMS-like message conversations is provided, where a group of individual SMS messages is treated as a single entity by the SMS conversation UI, and SMS conversation history UI saves space by including the SMS editor within the conversation history panel, and displays a pop-up display with useful information regarding the SMS message being edited.

13 Oct 1992TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for reducing interference in a radio communication link from a central site (230) to a mobile unit (228) in a cellular communication system is provided.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for reducing interference in a radio communication link from a central site (230) to a mobile unit (228) in a cellular communication system. The central site (230) includes a first (202) and a second (216) antenna which serve the geographic region (214) in which the mobile unit (228) is located. The radio communication link may be provided by communicating a signal in a first radio communication channel between the first central site antenna (202) and the mobile unit (228). Similarly, the radio communication link may be provided by communicating a signal in a second radio communication channel between the second central site antenna (216) and the mobile unit (228). A measure of interference in the first radio communication channel providing the radio communication link is determined. The radio communication link is switched, in response to the measure of interference being above a predetermined threshold, from the first to the second radio communication channel.

18 Oct 1993TL;DR: Time slots may be allocated within a communication system when a communication unit transmits a first packet to a time slot allocator as discussed by the authors, which determines whether the first packet contains a request for allocation of n-time slots or a request to transmit multiple packets.
Abstract: Time slots may be allocated within a communication system when a communication unit transmits a first packet to a time slot allocator. Upon receiving the first packet, the time slot allocator determines whether the first packet contains a request for allocation of n-time slots or a request to transmit multiple packets. When the first packet contains the request for allocation of n-time slots, the time slot allocator allocates the n-time slots to the communication unit when the n-time slots are available, wherein the n-time slots are allocated contiguous in time. When the first packet contains the request to transmit multiple packets, the time slot allocator allocates time slots to the communication unit until the multiple packets have been transmitted, wherein the time slots are allocated contiguous in time.

20 Feb 1990TL;DR: In this paper, a centralized communication system controller measures and stores a historical record of each subscriber unit's communication activity and predicts the communication activity over a future time interval, which causes the subscriber unit to enter an energy saving mode and deactivate (208) non-essential circuits.
Abstract: A centralized communication system controller (102) measures and stores a historical record of each subscriber unit's communication activity. By examining this historical record, the controller predicts the subscriber unit's communication activity over a future time interval. A code based upon this prediction is transmitted to the subscriber unit (110), which causes the subscriber unit to enter an energy saving mode and deactivate (208) non-essential circuits for a time period represented by the code. In this way, the duration of the ''sleep'' interval may be optimally varied based upon the subscriber unit's communication history. In another aspect of the invention, unexpected messages for a subscriber unit in the energy saving mode are sorted (114) electronically until the conclusion of the ''sleep'' interval. This message storing function enhances system efficiency when the subscriber unit's communication history does not correlate with actual communication traffic.
