Abstract: The present invention relates to a markup language to provide interactive services. A markup language document in accordance with the present invention includes a dialog element including a plurality of markup language elements. Each of the plurality of markup language elements is identifiable by at least one markup tag. A step element is contained within the dialog element to define a state within the dialog element. The step element includes a prompt element and an input element. The prompt element includes an announcement to be read to the user. The input element includes at least one input that corresponds to a user input. A method in accordance with the present invention includes the steps of creating a markup language document having a plurality of elements, selecting a prompt element, and defining a voice communication in the prompt element to be read to the user. The method further includes the steps of selecting an input element and defining an input variable to store data inputted by the user.

TL;DR: Various aspects of multi-user MIMO are studied including design philosophy, multi- user precoding, and control signaling, including those that facilitate dynamic switching, and the associated feedback schemes are discussed.
Abstract: Single-user multi-antenna technologies are well upported in current standard specifications like LTE Release 8/9. Further development of the specification (LTE-Advanced) is expected to conform to the requirements for IMT-Advanced systems. One of the key enabling features of LTE-Advanced to meet IMT-Advanced downlink performance requirements is multi-user MIMO, where a transmitter serves multiple users simultaneously on the same frequency resource, primarily relying on spatial separation. In general, multi-user MIMO is beneficial for improving average user spectral efficiency. However, cell edge user spectral efficiency may be reduced if multi-user MIMO is used exclusively, due to residual inter-user interference arising from practical multi-user beamforming and reduced transmit power allocated to each user. Therefore, it should be possible to configure the UE-specific transmission mode to support dynamic switching between single-user MIMO and multi-user MIMO to balance the cell edge user spectral efficiency as well as the average cell user spectral efficiency. In this article, we study various aspects of multi-user MIMO including design philosophy, multi-user precoding, and control signaling. The associated feedback schemes, including those that facilitate dynamic switching, are discussed. Performance evaluation is conducted to demonstrate the gain of dynamically switched single-user and multiuser MIMO as opposed to traditional single-user MIMO.

15 Jan 1997TL;DR: In this paper, a microprocessing unit (MPU) is coupled with a display for displaying information, a keypad (26), coupled to the MPU and to the display, for entering data by the user, an interface (54,56) for transferring signals between smart card and the external system when the smart card is coupled to an external system, and photovoltaic cells (52) for providing power to the Smart Card when the card is exposed to light.
Abstract: A smart card (50) transfers information between the smart card and an external system (24) while having the capability of being accessed by a user. The smart card includes a microprocessing unit (MPU) (18) for executing instructions stored in memory, a display (28), coupled to the MPU, for displaying information, a keypad (26), coupled to the MPU and to the display, for entering data by the user, an interface (54,56) for transferring signals between smart card and the external system when the smart card is coupled to the external system, and photovoltaic cells (52) for providing power to the smart card when the smart card is exposed to light. The smart card does not require the use of a bulky and inflexible battery and since the solar cells used are flexible, the flexibility of the smart card is maintained.

TL;DR: This paper presents conventional and emerging applications of orthogonal synthesis/analysis transform configurations (transmultiplexer) in communications and tries to increase the visibility of emerging communication applications of Orthogonal filter banks to generate more research activity in the signal processing community on these topics.
Abstract: This paper presents conventional and emerging applications of orthogonal synthesis/analysis transform configurations (transmultiplexer) in communications. It emphasizes that orthogonality is the underlying concept in the design of many communication systems. It is shown that orthogonal filter banks (subband transforms) with proper time-frequency features can play a more important role in the design of new systems. The general concepts of filter bank theory are tied together with the application-specific requirements of several different communication systems. Therefore, this paper is an attempt to increase the visibility of emerging communication applications of orthogonal filter banks and to generate more research activity in the signal processing community on these topics.
