Journal ArticleDOI

Effect on liver function of acetonaemia and the fat cow syndrome in cattle

TL;DR: Plasma albumin, urea and glucose concentrations were reliable indicators of the liver's synthetic function and together with plasma aspartate aminotransferase, iditol and glutamate dehydrogenase were correlated with the degree of hepatic lipidosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kupffer cells inhibition prevents hepatic lipid peroxidation and damage induced by carbon tetrachloride.

TL;DR: The present study shows that K upffer cells may be responsible for liver damage induced by carbon tetrachloride and that lipid peroxidation is produced or stimulated by Kupffer cells, since their inhibition with GdCl(3) prevented both lipid per oxidation and CCl(4)-induced liver injury.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effects of cortisol treatment on carbohydrate and protein metabolism in Fundulus heteroclitus

TL;DR: In a study of male Fundulus heteroclitus captured during the fall, 5 daily injections of cortisol (200 μg/fish or approximately 20 μg/g body wt) produced significant elevations in serum cortisol and hyperglycemia in both fed and fasted fish as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resveratrol and trimethylated resveratrol protect from acute liver damage induced by CCl4 in the rat.

TL;DR: The results of the present study suggest that OH groups are important for the antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties of the molecule of resveratrol; nevertheless, these effects can be improved by replacing hydrogen by a methyl in these groups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of thermal injury on lipid peroxide levels of rat

TL;DR: The levels of lipid peroxides in animal tissues and serum of postburn period were measured because it was suspected that burn toxin might be similar to lipid per oxides.
