Alpha-synuclein in Lewy bodies.
Maria Grazia Spillantini,Marie L. Schmidt,Virginia M.-Y. Lee,John Q. Trojanowski,Ross Jakes,Michel Goedert +5 more
TL;DR: Strong staining of Lewy bodies from idiopathic Parkinson's disease with antibodies for α-synuclein, a presynaptic protein of unknown function which is mutated in some familial cases of the disease, indicates that the LewY bodies from these two diseases may have identical compositions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ubiquitinated TDP-43 in frontotemporal lobar degeneration and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Manuela Neumann,Deepak M. Sampathu,Linda K. Kwong,Adam C. Truax,Matthew Micsenyi,Thomas T. Chou,Jennifer Bruce,Theresa Schuck,Murray Grossman,Christopher M. Clark,Leo McCluskey,Bruce L. Miller,Eliezer Masliah,Ian R. A. Mackenzie,Howard Feldman,Wolfgang Feiden,Hans A. Kretzschmar,John Q. Trojanowski,Virginia M.-Y. Lee +18 more
TL;DR: It is shown that TDP-43 is the major disease protein in both frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive inclusions and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis and management of dementia with Lewy bodies: Third report of the DLB Consortium
Ian G. McKeith,Ian G. McKeith,Dennis W. Dickson,James Lowe,Murat Emre,John T. O'Brien,Howard Feldman,Jeffrey L. Cummings,John E. Duda,Carol F. Lippa,Elaine K. Lopez,Satoshi Minoshima,Yoshikuni Mizuno,José Antonio Molina,Elizabeta B. Mukaetova-Ladinska,Florence Pasquier,Robert H. Perry,Jörg B. Schulz,John Q. Trojanowski,Masahito Yamada +45 more
TL;DR: The dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) Consortium has revised criteria for the clinical and pathologic diagnosis of DLB incorporating new information about the core clinical features and suggesting improved methods to assess them as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hypothetical model of dynamic biomarkers of the Alzheimer's pathological cascade
Clifford R. Jack,David S. Knopman,William J. Jagust,Leslie M. Shaw,Paul S. Aisen,Michael W. Weiner,Ronald C. Petersen,John Q. Trojanowski +7 more
TL;DR: This work proposes a model that relates disease stage to AD biomarkers in which Abeta biomarkers become abnormal first, before neurodegenerative biomarkers and cognitive symptoms, and neurodegnerative biomarker become abnormal later, and correlate with clinical symptom severity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of missense and 5′-splice-site mutations in tau with the inherited dementia FTDP-17
Mike Hutton,Corinne Lendon,Patrizia Rizzu,Matt Baker,Susanne Froelich,Susanne Froelich,Henry Houlden,Stuart Pickering-Brown,Sumitra Chakraverty,Adrian M. Isaacs,Andrew Grover,J. Mann,Timothy Lynch,Peter Heutink +51 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors sequenced tau in FTDP-17 families and identified three missense mutations (G272V, P301L and R406W) and three mutations in the 5' splice site of exon in
