TL;DR: Evidence is presented that the disappearance of the 0.7 structure at very low temperature signals the formation of a Kondo-like correlated spin state, including a zero-bias conductance peak that splits in a parallel field, scaling of conductance to a modified Kondo form, and consistency between peak width and the Kondo temperature.
Abstract: Besides the usual conductance plateaus at multiples of 2e(2)/h, quantum point contacts typically show an extra plateau at approximately 0.7(2e(2)/h), believed to arise from electron-electron interactions that prohibit the two spin channels from being simultaneously occupied. We present evidence that the disappearance of the 0.7 structure at very low temperature signals the formation of a Kondo-like correlated spin state. Evidence includes a zero-bias conductance peak that splits in a parallel field, scaling of conductance to a modified Kondo form, and consistency between peak width and the Kondo temperature.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an approach to switch a processor to its unrestricted mode of operation when running a multi-tasking operating system where an application program is being executed in a restricted mode.
Abstract: A laptop computer system includes a protected mode microprocessor capable of operating in restricted and unrestricted modes, and an arrangement which in response to a predetermined condition saves information from the processor and then forcibly switches the processor to its unrestricted mode of operation. When running a multi-tasking operating system where an application program is being executed in a restricted mode, a suspend/resume operation can be carried out in which the system is substantially powered down and then powered back up, and will resume the interrupted application with the restricted mode back in effect. Further, set-up changes such as adjustment of the processor speed can be made without exiting the application program running in the restricted mode.

TL;DR: In this paper, an advanced bookmark database system provides query, re-organization, information sharing, view, and access control capabilities to manage bookmarks, and an access control capability allows sharing of bookmarks among users.
Abstract: An advanced bookmark database system provides query, re-organization, information sharing, view, and access control capabilities to manage bookmarks. In one embodiment of the bookmark database system of the present invention, HTML document parsing, keyword extraction, and HTML/VRML document generation capabilities are provided, in addition to allowing comprehensive database query and navigation. The bookmark database system extracts document content semantics, intra-document structures, inter-document linkage, and useful metadata for users to allow query and organization based on various attributes, such as keywords, domains, and last visit times. Further, an access control capability allows sharing of bookmark databases among users. Multiple physical or logical bookmark databases can be merged to create new bookmark databases. Multiple bookmark databases can be organized as a hierarchical structure, to allowing grouping by individuals, projects, groups, departments, etc. Automated query dispatch and dynamic links capabilities are provided. Dynamic links cross references multiple bookmark databases according to bookmark content semantics or other criteria. A user interface provides visualizing models for organizing accessible physical or logical bookmark databases.

TL;DR: Evidence is given that this intrinsic pinning determines the threshold, and thus that the adiabatic spin torque dominates the domain wall motion in a perpendicularly magnetized Co/Ni nanowire, to achieve robust operation and low energy consumption in spintronic devices.
Abstract: The spin transfer torque is essential for electrical magnetization switching. When a magnetic domain wall is driven by an electric current through an adiabatic spin torque, the theory predicts a threshold current even for a perfect wire without any extrinsic pinning. The experimental confirmation of this 'intrinsic pinning', however, has long been missing. Here, we give evidence that this intrinsic pinning determines the threshold, and thus that the adiabatic spin torque dominates the domain wall motion in a perpendicularly magnetized Co/Ni nanowire. The intrinsic nature manifests itself both in the field-independent threshold current and in the presence of its minimum on tuning the wire width. The demonstrated domain wall motion purely due to the adiabatic spin torque will serve to achieve robust operation and low energy consumption in spintronic devices.
