TL;DR: In this paper, the ruthenium (Ru) catalyst was used as the CO selective oxidizer, instead of the platinum (Pt) catalyst known from some time ago, and a fuel cell performance equivalent to that with pure hydrogen can be ensured even in the reformed gas with the carbon monoxide (CO) concentration of 100 ppm.

04 Oct 1991TL;DR: In this article, a malfunction detection apparatus for detecting a malfunction in an evaporated fuel purge system was proposed, in which fuel vapor from a fuel tank is adsorbed in an adsorbent in a canister, and the fuel vapor in the adsorbents is purged into an intake passage of an engine.
Abstract: A malfunction detection apparatus for detecting a malfunction in an evaporated fuel purge system in which fuel vapor from a fuel tank is adsorbed in an adsorbent in a canister and the adsorbed fuel vapor in the adsorbent is purged into an intake passage of an engine. The apparatus includes a detection part for detecting a concentration of fuel in the fuel vapor purged into the intake passage so that a change in the detected fuel concentration from a time when a purge cutting is performed to a time when a purging is performed after the purge cutting has been performed is detected, and a discrimination part for determining whether there is a malfunction in the system on the basis of the change in the detected fuel concentration by the detection part. The apparatus also includes a fuel vapor detection part for detecting a condition of fuel vapor in the fuel tank, and a purge cut time varying part for varying a purge cut time period for which the purge cutting is continuously performed, the purge cut time being varied by the purge cut time varying part in response to the detected fuel vapor condition by the fuel vapor detection part.

TL;DR: This paper proposes to use the vehicle's position to query a multipath fingerprint database, which provides prior knowledge of potential pointing directions for reliable beam alignment, the inverse of fingerprinting localization.
Abstract: Efficient beam alignment is a crucial component in millimeter wave systems with analog beamforming, especially in fast-changing vehicular settings. This paper proposes a position-aided approach where the vehicle's position (e.g., available via GPS) is used to query the multipath fingerprint database, which provides prior knowledge of potential pointing directions for reliable beam alignment. The approach is the inverse of fingerprinting localization, where the measured multipath signature is compared to the fingerprint database to retrieve the most likely position. The power loss probability is introduced as a metric to quantify misalignment accuracy and is used for optimizing candidate beam selection. Two candidate beam selection methods are developed, where one is a heuristic while the other minimizes the misalignment probability. The proposed beam alignment is evaluated using realistic channels generated from a commercial ray-tracing simulator. Using the generated channels, an extensive investigation is provided, which includes the required measurement sample size to build an effective fingerprint, the impact of measurement noise, the sensitivity to changes in traffic density, and beam alignment overhead comparison with IEEE 802.11ad as the baseline. Using the concept of beam coherence time, which is the duration between two consecutive beam alignments, and parameters of IEEE 802.11ad, the overhead is compared in the mobility context. The results show that while the proposed approach provides increasing rates with larger antenna arrays, IEEE 802.11ad has decreasing rates due to the larger beam training overhead that eats up a large portion of the beam coherence time, which becomes shorter with increasing mobility.

04 Mar 2002TL;DR: In this paper, an exhaust gas purifying apparatus including an HC absorbent located in an upstream region of a selective reduction type NOx catalyst for improving a NOx purification efficiency is described.
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus including an HC absorbent located in an upstream region of a selective reduction type NOx catalyst for improving a NOx purification efficiency. In the exhaust gas purifying apparatus, an HC absorbing device is disposed upstream of a NOx catalyst converter arranged in an exhaust gas passageway. The selective reduction type NOx catalyst accommodated in the HC absorbing device uses a carrier, which is easy to absorb the HC when a temperature of the exhaust gas is lowered, and easy to desorb the HC when the temperature of the exhaust gas is raised, and a selective reduction type NOx catalyst accommodated in the NOx catalyst converter uses a carrier which has a strong absorption of HC for retention. In order to prevent a catalyst temperature of the NOx catalyst converter from being lowered to a temperature lower than a purification temperature window in an operating state of deceleration, an ECU corrects an opening degree of an EGR valve to be increased, and thereby a flow rate of the exhaust gas which flows into the NOx catalyst converter is decreased when an inlet gas temperature detected by an inlet gas temperature sensor is lowered to a temperature lower than a set temperature. Thus, lowering of the catalyst temperature is suppressed.

TL;DR: In this article, first-principles calculations are used to systematically study the stability of post-spinel LiMn2O4, NaMn 2O4 and MgMn1O4.
Abstract: At high pressures, spinel compounds can transform to CaFe2O4, CaMn2O4, or CaTi2O4 phases, which are regarded as post-spinel phases. Here, first-principles calculations are used to systematically study the stability of post-spinel LiMn2O4, NaMn2O4, and MgMn2O4, as well as their potential application as rechargeable battery cathodes. Thermodynamically, the stability of the post-spinel phase is highly related to the electronic configuration of transition-metal ions. By changing the concentration of Jahn–Teller active Mn3+, the relative stabilities of post-spinel phases can be easily monitored. It provides a practical way to obtain post-spinel compounds with desirable structures. Kinetically, post-spinel phases can be stable under ambient conditions, because of the high barrier that must be overcome to rearrange MnO6 octahedrons. The most spectacular finding in this work is the high cationic mobility in post-spinel compounds. The activation energy barrier of the migration of Mg2+ in CaFe2O4-type MgMn2O4 is 0....
