TL;DR: The results indicate that sodium fluoride induces memory impairment that outlasts short-term NaF withdrawal (2 weeks) and may be associated with NA and 5-HT increases in discrete brain regions.
Abstract: Previous studies suggest that sodium fluoride (NaF) can impair performance in some memory tasks, such as open-field habituation and two-way active avoidance. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of NaF intake (100 ppm in drinking water for 30 days) and its short-term (15 days) withdrawal on open-field habituation and brain monoamine level. Adult male rats were allocated to three groups: tap water (NaF 1.54 ppm) for 45 days (control group); 15 days of tap water followed by NaF for 30 days; and NaF for 30 days followed by 15 days of tap water. The results showed that NaF impairs open-field habituation and increases noradrenaline (NA) and serotonin (5-HT) in the striatum, hippocampus and neocortex. Dopamine (DA) increase was restricted to the striatum. Short-term NaF withdrawal did not reverse these NaF-induced changes, and both NaF treatments led to a mild fluorosis in rat incisors. No treatment effect was seen in body weight or fluid/water consumption. These results indicate that sodium fluoride induces memory impairment that outlasts short-term NaF withdrawal (2 weeks) and may be associated with NA and 5-HT increases in discrete brain regions.

TL;DR: Immediate breast reconstruction with implants and contralateral symmetrization had a positive impact on the quality of life and showed satisfactory outcomes when evaluated by subjective and objective methods.
Abstract: Background Although there are many reports on different techniques in breast reconstruction, there are few data regarding immediate breast reconstruction with definitive form-stable anatomical implants in terms of aesthetics and quality-of-life outcomes. Methods Ninety-four patients underwent mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction using anatomical implants and contralateral symmetrization. Aesthetic results were evaluated by three different methods: the patient's self-report, the assessment of four independent specialists (two breast surgeons and two plastic surgeons from different institutions), and the BCCT.core software. Quality of life was evaluated by means of the BREAST-Q instrument. Results Average age ± SD was 52.1 ± 11.6 years. Most of patients had medium size breasts and T1 tumors. Patients had evaluated their aesthetic results better than did software and specialists. There was no significant difference in the comparison between software and specialist's evaluation. Multifactorial analysis showed that age older than 70 years and radiotherapy were significant risk factors for poor aesthetic outcomes after immediate breast reconstruction with implants. Considering quality of life, most of the patients were satisfied with their outcome and psychosocial and sexual well-being. Conclusion Immediate breast reconstruction with implants and contralateral symmetrization had a positive impact on the quality of life and showed satisfactory outcomes when evaluated by subjective and objective methods.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe and analyze the changes that have taken place in the structural configuration of the co-authorship networks among professors linked to national programs of post graduate (stricto sensu) in Administration and formulate propositions, based on the institutional theory, regarding the probable strategic answers of such programs to the CAPES evaluation.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to describe and analyze the changes that have taken place in the structural configuration of the co-authorship networks among professors linked to national programs of post graduate (stricto sensu) in Administration and to formulate propositions, based on the institutional theory, regarding the probable strategic answers of such programs to the CAPES evaluation. A longitudinal cutting was adopted encompassing a six-year period, subdivided into two triennials: 2001-2003 and 2004-2006. The researched population includes 32 post-graduate programs that were evaluated by the Capes in 2001, as well as their 703 identified researchers. The data were collected based on the Lattes curriculum of professors who were active in those programs and were analyzed through routines made available by the the Ucinet 6.0 and Pajek 1.10 softwares. The results show an increase in co-operation through co-authorship from one triennial to the other, which would appear to indicate increased consent of the programs in relation to the requirements of the evaluating agency. These interactions may both reject or heighten coercive and normative institutional pressures on the part of the CAPES concerning the definition of the norms that serve as guidelines for the three-yearly evaluation of stricto sensu post-graduate programs in Brazil.
