TLDR
Prevalence and severity of health loss were weakly correlated and age-specific prevalence of YLDs increased with age in all regions and has decreased slightly from 1990 to 2010, but population growth and ageing have increased YLD numbers and crude rates over the past two decades.

Beyond the crisis: building back better mental health care in 10 emergency-affected areas using a longer-term perspective.

TL;DR: These cases demonstrate generally that emergency contexts can be tapped to make substantial and sustainable improvements in mental health systems, and the importance of adopting a longer-term perspective for mental health reform from the outset.

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Gastroprotection, and Benefit–Risk

TL;DR: Gastroprotective agents (GPA) substantially reduce morbidity and mortality with long‐term nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and aspirin.

Lost productive life years caused by chronic conditions in Australians aged 45–64 years, 2010–2030

TL;DR: To estimate productive life years lost because of chronic conditions in Australians aged 45–64 years from 2010 to 2030, and the impact of this loss on gross domestic product (GDP) over the same period.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of urine dipstick and albumin:creatinine ratio for chronic kidney disease screening: A population-based study.

TL;DR: The urine dipstick test had poor sensitivity and high false-discovery rates for ACR ≥30 mg/g detection, and classified a large number of individuals into different CKD risk categories compared with ACR-based categories, even after adjusting for confounders.
Journal ArticleDOI

Use of eHealth technologies to enable the implementation of musculoskeletal Models of Care: Evidence and practice

TL;DR: This work focuses on the practical application of eHealth technologies across care settings to those MSK conditions contributing most substantially to the burden of disease, including osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis, skeletal fragility-associated conditions and persistent MSK pain.

TL;DR: The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2010 aimed to estimate annual deaths for the world and 21 regions between 1980 and 2010 for 235 causes, with uncertainty intervals (UIs), separately by age and sex, using the Cause of Death Ensemble model.

Cancer Incidence in Five Continents

TL;DR: The aim of this study was to establish a database of histological groups and to provide a level of consistency and quality of data that could be applied in the design of future registries.

The epidemiology of major depressive disorder: results from the National Comorbidity Survey Replication (NCS-R).

TL;DR: Notably, major depressive disorder is a common disorder, widely distributed in the population, and usually associated with substantial symptom severity and role impairment, and while the recent increase in treatment is encouraging, inadequate treatment is a serious concern.
Book

The global burden of disease: a comprehensive assessment of mortality and disability from diseases injuries and risk factors in 1990 and projected to 2020.

TL;DR: This is the first in a planned series of 10 volumes that will attempt to "summarize epidemiological knowledge about all major conditions and most risk factors" and use historical trends in main determinants to project mortality and disease burden forward to 2020.
