09 Apr 2004TL;DR: In this paper, a technique for the end terminal provided with services to handle QoS process is disclosed, where a terminal based QoS management scheme is implemented to achieve end-to-end QoS wherein the end terminals 21 is responsible for handling of the QoS related functions.
Abstract: A technique for the end terminal provided with services to handle QoS process is disclosed. According to this technique, a terminal based QoS management scheme is implemented to achieve end-to-end QoS wherein the end terminal 21 is responsible for handling of the QoS related functions. In order for QoS management to be handled at terminal, the terminal needs to know the network conditions and external state of entities in order to know what action to be taken. For example, the terminal performs monitoring and usage collection. These performance data are then reported to a central server (SLA manager 28). The central server collects these data from all terminals within its administration domain. The central server also has access to information on the QoS to be given to individual terminals, such as service level. Based on the information, the central server decides what action to be taken by individual terminal and enforces these actions into the affected terminals.

02 Apr 1997TL;DR: A multi-viewpoint image transmission and display method is characterized by that in transmitting images with two or more viewpoints, distance or parallax limits in the images are appended for transmission so that the images can be brought within a fusing range as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A multi-viewpoint image transmission and display method is characterized by that in transmitting images with two or more viewpoints, distance or parallax limits in the images are appended for transmission so that the images can be brought within a fusing range, and the images are displayed by considering the transmitted distance or parallax limits and the fusing range

17 Jun 2005TL;DR: In this paper, a BD-ROM playback apparatus for selecting and playing back one among text subtitle streams together with a moving picture is presented, where decoding capability flags indicate whether decoding capability is present or not.
Abstract: A BD-ROM playback apparatus for selecting and playing back one among text subtitle streams together with a moving picture. PSR 48-61 store Decode Capability flags whose set values indicate, for each language, whether or not a decode capability is present. Procedure executing unit 20 judges whether each text subtitle stream can be displayed, by referring to each set value of flags. Stream selection unit 17 selects a text subtitle stream judged as being able to be decoded. Here, the decode capability for a language being present indicates presence of rendering capability for converting character codes of the language into bitmaps, and support capability for supporting properties of the language. The b16 to b23 in PSR 30 includes a permission flag indicating whether stream selection unit 17 is permitted to select an unsupported language for which rendering capability is present but not support capability.

04 Jul 1991TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a disk shaped information recording medium having a virtual ROM area where data sectors, and parity sectors are recorded, and the disk definition area where the management data of the virtualROM area is recorded in the rewritable user area.
Abstract: The present invention is a disk shaped information recording medium having a virtual ROM area where data sectors, and parity sectors are recorded, and the disk definition area where the management data of the virtual ROM area is recorded in the rewritable user area and an information recording and reproducing apparatus for making the information recording medium. Also, the information recording and reproducing apparatus prohibits the data record operation with respect to the virtual ROM area and recovers the data of the defective sector detected in the virtual ROM area with the use of the parity sector.

18 Jul 1995TL;DR: In this article, an information on demand system provides a user of a terminal (subscriber) information through a network such as CATV such that the user pays an adequate charge to a server (information provider).
Abstract: An information on demand system provides a user of a terminal (subscriber) information through a network such as CATV such that the user pays an adequate charge to a server (information provider). According to the information on demand system, the received information can be recorded in a recording medium under control of the terminal equipment. Cases in which 1) the subscriber merely watches a program on a television receiver and; 2) the subscriber records the program and watches it by reproducing the recorded information at another time are distinguished and the subscriber is charged a different amount by the server accordingly.
