TL;DR: In this article, an internet on-demand system for television presents internet content and traditional television programming as part of a single coherent interface, which includes a server and a client capable of providing a dynamic graphical user interface.
Abstract: An internet on-demand system for television presents internet content and traditional television programming as part of a single coherent interface. The system can display an internet gateway interface which actively scrolls through and highlights links to selected web pages which are organized according to templates corresponding to their content. The links are highlighted in a dynamic revolving sequence with associated graphics and sounds. The system includes a server and a client capable of providing a dynamic graphical user interface. The web pages are presented on the graphical user interface as channels as part of the same milieu as channels of traditional television programming. The user can select a channel from a rotary menu wheel. An intelligent agent passively filters selected web pages for a user to explore based on the user's past pattern of usage of the client. The server queries the client regarding its available data stream connections, including telephone modems, cable modems, and digital satellite broadcasting, in order to determine the most efficient delivery of different types of data through all of the available bandwidth connections. The efficient delivery of data allows the client to present text, graphics, video, audio and other multimedia information from a web page over the internet as a coordinated presentation.

TL;DR: In this article, a video signal coding method for generating transmission data, a digital video signal is quantized by a quantization step which is controlled on the basis of significant picture information to be transmitted.
Abstract: In a video signal coding method for generating transmission data, a digital video signal is quantized by a quantization step which is controlled on the basis of significant picture information to be transmitted. The significant picture information is, for example, the quantity of information in a main region and in a sub region, the quantity of picture information to be coded, the picture motion in coded regions, the amount of variations in picture information between regions to be coded, or the components of spatial frequency with respect to regions to be coded. By reason of such control of the quantization step, deterioration of picture quality of the transmission data can be avoided, while the quantity of transmitted data is reduced.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and a recording apparatus whereby audio and video signals can be recorded on a plurality of recording tracks on the same recording medium is described, where a series of temporarily consecutive audio signals are recorded across multiple audio and visual tracks, and the track number data of the information signals on these audio tracks are written in corresponding positions of a digital, table memory.
Abstract: Described is a method and a recording apparatus whereby audio and video signals can be recorded on a plurality of recording tracks on the same recording medium. A series of temporarily consecutive audio signals can be recorded across a plurality of tracks. On at least the audio track, information signals including the leading track number, the next following track number and the number of the video track bearing the corresponding video signals, are recorded. The track number data of the information signals on these audio tracks are written in corresponding positions of a digital, table memory. These control code data are recorded on a predetermined control track on the recording medium such that a series of desired audio signals and the corresponding video signals can be selectively reproduced smoothly and promptly by first reading the control track and then reproducing the audio and video tracks in accordance with the control code data information.

TL;DR: In this paper, a vehicle-mounted apparatus is described which includes a displaying unit for providing information to a user, an inputting unit for inputting operations carried out by the user, and a controlling unit for controlling a display of the displaying unit based on the operations input through the input unit.
Abstract: A vehicle-mounted apparatus is disclosed which includes a displaying unit for providing information to a user, an inputting unit for inputting operations carried out by the user, and a controlling unit for controlling a display of the displaying unit based on the operations input through the inputting unit. The inputting unit has at least a touch-sensitive panel attached to a display screen of the displaying unit. The controlling unit causes the displaying unit to display a menu screen based on the operations input through the inputting unit. The controlling unit also causes the displaying unit to switch the displays based on menus selected on the menu screen. Furthermore, the controlling unit causes the displaying unit to switch, as when a specific menu is selected on the menu screen, the displays in response to a fingertip gesture made by the user for detection on the touch-sensitive panel.
