Journal ArticleDOI

Cross-talk between mitochondria and proteasome in Parkinson's disease pathogenesis

TL;DR: The role of mitochondria and proteasome cross-talk in the neuronal loss that leads to PD is addressed and how this knowledge might further improve patient therapy is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Protective Effect of Vitamin E, Idebenone and Reduced Glutathione on Free Radical Mediated Injury in Rat Brain Synaptosomes☆☆☆

TL;DR: The data suggest that the increased formation of free radicals in synaptosomes leads to lipid and protein oxidation, the role of the endogenous GSH being essential to protect protein thiol-groups against oxidative damage in order to maintain enzyme activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis in Huntington's disease human cybrids

TL;DR: Investigation of the involvement of mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis in Huntington's disease (HD) vs. control cybrids showed increased mitochondrial Bax and Bim levels and the release of AIF, but not cytochrome c, suggesting a different mode of cell death, linked to the loss of membrane integrity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Involvement of mitochondria in endoplasmic reticulum stress‐induced apoptotic cell death pathway triggered by the prion peptide PrP106–126

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that functional mitochondria are required for cell death as a result of ER stress triggered by the PrP peptide, and further elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in the neuronal loss that occurs in prion disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI

Erratum to: Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (3rd edition) (Autophagy, 12, 1, 1-222, 10.1080/15548627.2015.1100356
