- Vol. 36, Iss: 13, pp 1811-1836
TLDR
A panel of leading experts in the field attempts here to define several autophagy‐related terms based on specific biochemical features to formulate recommendations that facilitate the dissemination of knowledge within and outside the field of autophagic research.

Molecular mechanisms of cell death: recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death 2018.

Lorenzo Galluzzi, +186 more
TL;DR: The Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death (NCCD) has formulated guidelines for the definition and interpretation of cell death from morphological, biochemical, and functional perspectives.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chloroquine inhibits autophagic flux by decreasing autophagosome-lysosome fusion.

TL;DR: It is shown that CQ mainly inhibits autophagy by impairing autophagosome fusion with lysosomes rather than by affecting the acidity and/or degradative activity of this organelle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autophagy pathway: Cellular and molecular mechanisms

TL;DR: This review will define this process and the cellular pathways required, from the formation of the double membrane to the fusion with lysosomes in molecular terms, and in particular highlight the recent progress in understanding of this complex process.

Emerging functions of the EGFR in cancer

TL;DR: The canonical ligand‐induced EGFR signaling pathway is reviewed, with particular emphasis to its regulation by endocytosis and subversion in human tumors, and the most recent advances in uncovering noncanonical EGFR functions in stress‐induced trafficking, autophagy, and energy metabolism are focused on.
Journal ArticleDOI

Macrophages and Metabolism in the Tumor Microenvironment

TL;DR: The metabolic circuitries whereby TAMs condition the TME to support tumor growth and how such pathways can be therapeutically targeted are discussed.

AMPK and mTOR regulate autophagy through direct phosphorylation of Ulk1

TL;DR: A molecular mechanism for regulation of the mammalian autophagy-initiating kinase Ulk1, a homologue of yeast ATG1, is demonstrated and a signalling mechanism for UlK1 regulation and autophagic induction in response to nutrient signalling is revealed.

Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (3rd edition)

Daniel J. Klionsky, +2522 more
- 21 Jan 2016 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a set of guidelines for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macro-autophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes.

p62/SQSTM1 Binds Directly to Atg8/LC3 to Facilitate Degradation of Ubiquitinated Protein Aggregates by Autophagy

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the previously reported aggresome-like induced structures containing ubiquitinated proteins in cytosolic bodies are dependent on p62 for their formation and p62 is required both for the formation and the degradation of polyubiquitin-containing bodies by autophagy.
